"Our Rose Queen, Her Attendants & The Page Boy" | |||

It is a tradition at Woodcocks' Well to have a Rose Queen, Her Attendants and a Page Boy. These are very privileged and responsible roles that will last for the full year of school.
The Rose Queen and Attendants are chosen from the soon to be Year 6 girls, and the Page Boy is usually the youngest boy in the school.
The ceremony to crown the Rose Queen takes place in St.Lukes Church, at the start of the Summer Fair. It is our Head Teacher who gives our Rose Queen her first mission. If the Rose Queen accepts her first mission, then the Celebrations begin!
A Traditional Maypole Dance is performed by some of the other children with the expert help of Miss Sharples and Jillian.
A Modern Performance of Street Dance is also displayed, we have some very gifted and talented children and some right little movers who delight in showing off their new moves to parents, family, friends and the rest of the community. They have learnt these routines in our school club, with the expert help of Miss Braxton. The Summer Fair is then officially opened. It is the Rose Queen's duty to represent our school and to attend other celebrations that she and her attendants have been invited to and to ensure that they are coordinally invited back to Woodcocks' Well.
(In May 2008 our school entered the World's Largest Maypole Dance which was held in Congleton. The results were then entered in the Guinness World Records).

A sponsored Bounce was performed during National Schools Sports Week and monies raised are to be put towards purchasing a shooting post and our very own set of rocket ball equipment. |
